Business as Unusual
Like many businesses around the country, our teams shifted from working across offices and out on location to working from home.
What we are doing differently at Futures?
We’re checking in our apprentices and professional development candidates using video chat to continue their teaching and learning and we’ve also taken things online to make sure that we’re still on hand to talk to businesses about how we can support them in terms of training and development. We want to keep conversations going and explore skills gaps across the board through these changes to help make plans for the future.
Our people are important to us, so we’re catching up regularly online using team video calls, and not just to discuss business! Have they watched something great on Netflix recently? Have they come up with a new recipe made entirely from the cupboard? Having a bit of normal chitchat can really boost your mood.
Tips for working from home
In light of all this change, we’ve put together some tips for remote working, do you have any you think we should add?
- Keep the routine
We know working from home is the perfect excuse for a lie in, but by trying to stick to a routine to keep your motivation levels up.
- Small breaks go a long way
Small breaks can help you feel more energised, even if it’s to pop to the kitchen and make a coffee and grab a snack, it helps to stand up and walk around for a few minutes.
- Step away from the screen
A perfect time to do this is on your lunch break. Many people can end up working even more when they’re working from home, so go and sit in your garden, read a book, or even start a series you’ve been wanting to get into. Whatever you do, step away from the laptop for 30 minutes!
- Catch up with your team
Lots of us are using Microsoft Teams so that we still get to see each other’s lovely faces during meetings, but we recommend checking via a group chat or team video call for 15/20 minutes a day just to see how everyone is.
- Play some music
Background music can really help you to not feel so isolated and lift your mood. It could be the radio, a random Spotify playlist (we like Coffee Break), or perhaps you love a Disney musical. Whatever works for you, have it on and we guarantee you’ll be typing with a smile on your face. Check out our YouTube playlist.
Unlimited Possibilities for the future
Whilst it could feel like things are slowing down, now could be a really good time to begin to think about what your company could benefit from.
Could it be an opportunity to keep learning or start upskilling your staff? Keep morale up and show your people you care by investing time in apprenticeships and training. We have a wide range of apprenticeships and professional development courses for you to choose from, all sign ups are done online and over the phone and all teaching is online too.
Whilst everyone is facing a lot of uncertainty, we’re here to provide support. Whatever happens, we’re here to support businesses and their teams to keep succeeding.

Covid-19 – Important Information
Our number one priority is the safety of our customers and colleagues. To ensure we’re able to follow the Governments guidance around social distancing we’ve temporarily closed our offices and centres. Whilst these are closed, our commitment is not. Our teams are on hand, working from home to provide you with support over the phone or online.Read More
