Functional Skills English Selection Day

About the Information Day

Functional Skills are the essential skills needed for English, maths and ICT, and are vital for young people and adults to participate in life, learning and work.

The selection day for this course will take place on Tuesday 29th October 2019. The start date of this course will be a few weeks later due to being able to account for half term in Nottinghamshire.

Each level of this programme is designed to run for 12 days over a 6 week period and learners will be assessed in the three elements of Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing and all three must be achieved in order to gain the recognised qualification at their level.

The course starts on 5th November and runs every Tuesday & Wednesday 10:00 till 16:00 for 6 weeks


About our Courses

Here at Futures we are able to offer Functional Skills in both English and maths at the following levels:

  • Entry Level 3 - Equivalent to working at year 9 / 10 in school and working just below GCSE level.
  • Level 1 - Equivalent to a GCSE Grade E-D (Equivalencies for the new GCSE numbered system would be 2-3)
  • Level 2 - Equivalent to GCSE Grade C-A* (Equivalencies for the new GCSE numbered system would be 4-9)


Who Can Attend

In order to gain access to the following opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Are 19 years old or over (must have turned 19 by 31st August 2019)
  • Have lived in the UK or a European Union (EU) / European Economic Area (EEA) Member state for three years or more or be a British / EU Citizen, or Individuals or Asylum Seekers with certain types of immigration status*
  • Are actively seeking employment and claiming an unemployment benefit of either: Universal Credit, Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance (WRAG) **
  • Can we working (with no wage restrictions), but should be able to commit to the course
