    About the Role

     

    Hockley Developments is looking for an ambitious junior architectural designer/technologist to aid the in-house design team with delivery of a variety of conversion and new-build residential projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate looking to get a fast-tracked experience with dealing with live projects from planning stages all the way through to building sign-off.

     

    This role is for a junior staff member focused on the day-to-day delivery of concept design work, planning drawings and construction drawings to facilitate the design and technical process. Reporting directly to senior members of the design and construction teams, this role forms the core to the architectural department. The role is primarily office based with focused targets on the delivery of planning applications and the completion of technical construction issue drawings for building control approval and site use. Regular site experience will naturally develop in this role as projects progress through to construction phases and completion.

    As part of a small team, the role puts high reliance on an ability to be proactive and forward-thinking with the design process, ensuring correspondence with applicable third parties is undertaken clearly and with confidence to see projects through.

     

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    1. Feasibility studies.
    2. Site analysis and context research including site surveys where required.
    3. Consultation with planning consultants and end-users.
    4. Full design phase drawings for review with senior design team and construction team members.
    5. Planning application draw up and submission of appropriate drawings and documentation.
    6. Modelling projects within Revit to produce tender phase drawings for contractors and building control approval.
    7. Liaising with Building Control and other technical third-party consultants and follow through with information during technical design work.
    8. Construction detailing completed in line with consultation with senior technicians and construction department.
    9. Planning review and applications for discharge of condition based on planning feedback.
    10. Ongoing organisation of all necessary in-house information, surveys and consultant reports and drawings.
    11. Ongoing design team meetings and reviews with senior members of staff.

     

    About You

     

    The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

    • Architecture (Part I / Part II) / Architecture Technology Degree or similar qualification.
    • 1+ year experience is preferred, placement years in industry will be considered. Ideally candidate will have post-qualification experience working with residential new-build and conversion schemes.
    • Revit and AutoCAD proficiency.
    • Understanding of UK Building Regulations and Planning Process.
    • Excellent communicator of ideas and concepts, with ability to present and discuss schemes with colleges and external third parties/consultants.
    • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
    • Ability to manage personal workload with good organisational skills to ensure projects deadlines are achieved.
    • High attention to detail, both on a technical level and within general work ethic.

    It is preferred that a successful candidate has a full driver’s license, but this is not a necessity.
