An exciting opportunity to work as a Teaching assistant based in our SEND department supporting children with EHCPS or on the SEND register across Key stages Three & Four aged 11yrs –16yrs. All whilst working towards the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
The school is a mainstream secondary school that meets the needs of pupils regardless of Special Educational Needs to ensure that all pupils make the best possible progress. SEND can be categorised by the 4 broad areas of need:
· Cognition and Learning
· Communication and Interaction
· Social, Emotional and Mental Health
At Hastings High School we recognise that all pupils must be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. The best for every child. We aim to provide “Care and Excellence for all” by supporting each and every person in our care. Our approach begins with quality first teaching in the classroom. All staff are given detailed information about pupil’s SEND needs and this information is used to provide differentiated support when required in lessons.
We are committed to continually re-evaluating the needs of all of our pupils through formal and informal means and we actively encourage a close partnership between the school, the pupil and parents/carers.
The SEND Department meet weekly to discuss the progress of SEND pupils and the effectiveness of current provision. In addition to this, specific pupils with special educational needs will have regular sessions where they have an opportunity to discuss their progress and views with their keyworker.
Due to our desire to improve provisions for our students with additional needs, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated teaching assistant to join our expanding support team. We offer a break and lunchtime club for our students who need extra support during social times.at these times. This facility enables students to work for a short period in a quiet and calm area and access additional support when needed. Our programme of interventions helps to improve students’ speech and language development, handwriting skills, social and emotional development and literacy and numeracy skills. Our team is committed to supporting all students to develop both academic and life skills in order to prepare them for adulthood.
We have a clear understanding of what we are looking for in the staff we appoint. If you have a desire to work hard transforming lives, can use your own initiative and have a good sense of humour and want to be part of a dynamic team, you could be part of our Hastings family.
You will be classroom based, supporting children & young people under the direction of the class teacher. You will complete an apprenticeship whilst being given time to work towards your level 3 apprenticeship standard within school time. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in a school environment with the support of your skills coach from Futures. Futures have supported many apprentices to pass this apprenticeship with flying colours. We can guarantee that you will be well supported on your apprenticeship journey.
