It’s National STEM/STEAM Day – A day to celebrate all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. If you’re looking to change your career path and think you may be interested in one of these subjects, why not take the first step today?

Many people put off looking into these subjects – especially if they are past school and college age, assuming that, without formal training, they have no way to get a foot in the door of a STEM career.

Fortunately, that’s not true.

At Futures, we can offer you support and help to get into your dream career, and we do so in a number of ways:

Supporting over-19s to learn and develop new skills whether they are for a first job or to help you to change the direction of your career. We have a variety of courses covering a wide range of subjects, including short pre-employment courses to lead you into employment, and traineeships, which give you the opportunity to try different business areas, as well as making sure you stand out to employers.

Apprenticeships offer an opportunity to learn skills within an industry while working within it. This means you are putting knowledge to practical use in everyday circumstances, which helps you to learn the ropes quicker and results in a formal qualification as proof of your hard work.

We currently offer a range of apprenticeships, including Business Administration, Customer Service, Digital and Creative, Leadership and Management, Education Learning and Development and Youth Work

Through Futures for You, we can offer Personal Guidance for those of school-leaving age, as well as Careers Advice and CV Advice to help you to find a job in your chosen field, making sure you succeed every step of the way, no matter your age.

Of course, having the right qualifications is not the only barrier to getting into your dream career – you may also be holding yourself back through fear or hesitation.

When it comes to changing careers, it’s not unusual to feel mixed emotions – even if you have been dreaming of entering a new sector for years, jumping into the unknown is bound to leave you feeling a bit worried.

But, if taking a step into a different industry has been on your mind for some time, it could be the best thing for you.

At Futures, we can help you to make sure you are fully prepared an able to make the change in a timeframe to suit you – that could include talking you through the financial implications of changing career, or helping you to work out the finer details of everyday life, such as childcare or professional development opportunities.
